Teenage Mothers to be Awarded Certificates of Completion After Intensive Training at UCC

Uganda Children Centre in partnership with IDAY Uganda and Divine Mission Junior School received financial support from the Rotary Club of Braine I’Alleud through IDAY International to skill teenage mothers, and to donate school supplies to learners in one primary school.

The team worked well with local leaders of Dubai Zone, Makindye II Parish, Makindye Division to identify teenagers dropped out of school but still willing to train in sustainable vocational courses to improve their livelihoods.

Many teenagers expressed interest but only 25 slots were available. Our thanks go to the trainers at UCC Vocational Training Institute for applying modern and improved training modules which helped learners to grasp the skills and knowledge easily in such a short time of study.

In the same vein, we thank the administrators of Divine Mission Junior School for the wonderful work they do to access quality education to the less privileged children in the community. 25 pupils were carefully selected to receive school supplies as an intervention to improve their academic performance, and to have children own personal learning items that enhance concentration in school.

This action increased self-confidence, determination and immeasurable value to learners’ personal wellbeing, which outwardly translated into excellent performance in school work. The teenage mothers will be awarded certificates of completion in August 2023 when members of MEM visit Uganda to ascertain projects and activities implemented by UCC.

The training emphasized competence-based learning that introduced learners to different modules researched and compiled in ATP publications of the Directorate of Industrial Training under Ministry of Education and Sports. It is a dream come true because none of the learners ever dreamed of getting this far, and receiving this revered Certificate from government. Our special thanks go to RC Briane I’Alleud and IDAY International for the good cooperation that allowed these youngsters join the World of work with professional skills, to improve their livelihoods, as well as contribute to community and national development.
