Beneficiaries of Formal Education Receive Mosquitoes Nets to Fight Malaria

UCC joined the national programme of reducing high prevalence of malaria cases among communities residing in informal settlements of Kampala District. UCC donated mosquitoes’ nets to vulnerable children to protect them from mosquitoes’ bites that cause malaria. Since the nets were few in numbers, the distribution targeted mainly beneficiaries residing in malaria prone areas that put the dwellers at risk of contracting disease.

This will reduce malarial sicknesses that affect their daily studies. It will also help to cut on health expenses incurred by these families. Each family received one mosquitoes net which did not sufficiently serve the purpose because some families have more than five children.

However, those with many children were advised to use one net for at least two children sleeping on the same bed. They were also cautioned not to use the nets for other purposes, for instance, covering small gardens next to their houses.

The nets are part of the financial support given to UCC by MEM that resulted from the generous donation from Ms. Inge. As management of UCC, we did not take this gesture for granted, but rather, to record it as a milestone that added value and visibility to activities of the organization.
