Aidah Adeke Janet is a brilliant young girl who is a beneficiary of UCC Formal Education Programme now in primary six. She is attending a school called Kitebi Day and Boarding Primary School situated in Wakiso District. Aidah stays with her mother after separating from the Father. The mother works in one informal market called Owino located in Kisenyi slum on the outskirt of Kampala City. The mother’s income is so low that she cannot afford to pay fees for Aidah and her siblings. Her business was indeed affected by the outbreak of COVID-19 that even the little capital she had reduced considerably due to inactive business activities around the area. Despite the gloomy environment sweeping the slums and adjacent areas, Aidah remains stable while showing her piecing smile to everyone that comes across her. She adjusts well with her peers and family members. She likes school and is the reason why her performance remains good and promising. She likes playing netball and making drawings of different objects. Aidah keeps on shifting her dreams of who she wants to be after school. Lately, she said she wants to become a Doctor after when she grows up. However, previously she expressed of becoming an engineer to fix roads that make reach late at school due to uncovered drainages. I believe she is only conscious about her surroundings that whatever affects her preoccupies her mind. Hopefully, she will one day zero down to her real dream. She is very grateful to UCC and the sponsors for enabling her attend school unlike other children who are still at home. However, she feels sorry for them and prays that they also get sponsors and restart school. She likes visiting UCC to engage in some work as a sign of appreciation. She is always received with open hands by social workers and leaves after attending sessions on counselling and guidance. She responds well to the sessions and this gives her courage to continue being a well-behaved girl. We thank Aidah for being exemplary to her peers. UCC will continue supporting her wherever it has the ability and resources.
