Donation of School Supplies Improves Learners’ Performance in Local Private Schools

UCC Formal Education beneficiaries appreciate the love, care and compassion demonstrated by sponsors financially, materially and emotionally. This time, four children namely; Destiny Namuwonge, Mark Buule Banagaaya, Agnes Nabukalu and Rauzah Ndagire received donations from MEM directly from Spain.

The children were so thankful to the sponsors for organizing such wonderful gifts. They expressed their appreciation to the sponsors’ generosity and prayed that God rewards them abundantly.

The donations included different educational items ranging from pencils, coloured pencils, exercise books, bags, art books, boys’ and girls’ clothes, rulers, dolls, private small bags and jelly among others. Such items facilitate day-to-day learning which closes the gap of missing learning items for the learners.

The increased prices of scholastic materials on the market have failed many learners from accessing recommended items which impacts on their academic performance at school. This may look like a drop in the ocean but plays a significant role in the educational advancement of these children.

Since learners go to different schools, it is always logical to have them gather in a central place at UCC office to receive donations as a group. This is done to facilitate cohesion among learners and to strengthen positive relations with UCC administrators. UCC social workers have noted improved academic performance in school work for children who received school supplies and subsequently put to good use.

Apparently, the situation in Ugandan schools is not lack of ability to perform adequately by learners, but absence of training and learning materials in classes. A few learning materials shared among learners in the class leave a big number not able to follow causing low levels of comprehension over the subject matter.

It is always advisable to have adequate learning and training materials for both trainer and learner to facilitate good learning which translates into excellent academic performance.

As we continue to thank the sponsors through Ms. Eva Valle and team for this honorable task of financing the education of youngsters in informal settlements, we also appeal for more donations in terms of reading books and any other materials deemed good for school learning.

Our social workers and counsellors continue to motivate learners by visiting them at school and in homes to talk about social issues that may challenge them from achieving their goals. This approach has created strengthened rapport between UCC and the beneficiaries. We thank the parents and the caretakers for supporting this programme.
